Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Tucson Repair Cafe!
About the Tucson Repair Cafe
A repair cafe is a gathering place for people to get broken items fixed for free! Our mission is to keep items out of the landfill and save people money they would otherwise spend to replace their items. As a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit, we encourage hands-on participation to learn new repairing skills like sewing and soldering.
About Our Fourth Saturday Events
Fourth Saturday events are held at libraries around town from 10am - 2pm. This month, we will be at Martha Cooper Library!

About Our Fourth Saturday Events
Fourth Saturday events are held at libraries around town from 10am - 2pm. This month, we will be at Martha Cooper Library!
Events flow like this:
- Before the event:
- Tool set up
- Sign in to system to track present repairers and get ready to check in items
- During the event:
- We begin to check people in to our sign-in system, tracking their item and place in line.
- We assign the item to a repairer.
- The repairer works with the person to help fix the item. We do not let people drop off their items and encourage people to get hands on and learn repairing skills alongside their repairer!
- The item is either fixed, deemed unfixable, or advice is given on parts that need to be bought or methods to try at home. The item is then checked out with this status recorded.
- After the event
- Clean up
- Load tools back into a car to be stored until the next event
While people wait, they can hang out, talk, and eat free snacks! We strive to create a fun community space where people can meet others and learn new things.
About Volunteer Roles:
-
Repairer
- We can't do anything without our repairers! Come and help fix community items. Please tell us which items you feel comfortable repairing by answering the question below.
-
Check-In Manager
- To make sure our events run smoothly, we need Check-In Managers to keep track of items that people bring in and track their spot in line using our sign-in system. This is also important so we can track how many items we've fixed in total!
-
Item Assigner
- Typically one of our head repairers, this person knows the skills of the current repairers and assigns checked-in items to the best repairer for the job. This person can work on repairs once all repairers are working on an item.
-
Supply Manager & Runner
- This person would drive to Ace Hardware or Elliot's Electronics to buy items we need to fix items if someone needs a specific part. Can also help people find the right items to buy on their own. Would only make one or two runs per event. Additionally, this person would help find specific tools/supplies from our supply that repairers need and mark down what new tools/supplies we need to buy.
-
Check-Out Manager
- Once an item has been fixed/ deemed unfixable, we need to mark the item as complete in our sign-in system. This could be the same person as our Check-In Manager, but the smoothest event would have someone dedicated to checking out items!
