SUMC is celebrating 150 years this October and we are putting together a Cabaret!
SUMC is turning 150 and to celebrate this milestone, we’re planning a full month of worship, mission, and special events throughout October 2025. Each week will feature guest preachers, meaningful activities, and opportunities to serve together.
We’re thrilled to kick off the celebration on Sunday, October 5, by welcoming back Rev. Randy Duncan as our guest preacher. Since many of our beloved musicals were performed during his time at Sterling, we’re hosting a special Cabaret Night on Saturday, October 4 to honor the legacy of theater in our church’s life.
The cabaret will be open first to those who have participated in past productions, with additional spots available as space allows. You’re welcome to perform a song you sang in one of the musicals—or choose something from one of the shows you have always wanted to sing (as long as the original performer isn’t planning to reprise it!). Several of the shows (Pride & Prejudice, Working, probably others) have monologues as well so if singing isn't your jam but you are interested performing, there are some options there as well.
I would love to have music from all of our productions represented if we can pull that off. Obviously we will adjust as needed as we go along! The goal would be to pull it all together at a rehearsal earlier in the day on the 4th (to allow people who might be traveling in to limit their trips to NoVA) but we could certainly make arrangements to rehearse prior to that if there is interest and availability.
Thanks for considering this! You sign up with your name, how to contact you and what you want to perform (please put the title in the notes). We will get the music and be in touch! (Can't decide? Sign up twice and we'll see what we can do! Want to reprise an entire number? We can surely try!)
The shows, for reference:
2006 – Godspell
