Bliss Plaza Pop-Up Food Distro
Thursday's weekly pop-up food distribution will take place at Bliss Plaza under the 46th Street Station. This pantry has three distinct shifts:
- Truck Driver & Helper - 11:30AM to 2:00PM
- Pantry Tablers + Set-up - 1:30PM to 3:00PM
- Pantry Tablers + Clean-up - 3:00PM to 4:00PM
Descriptions of the shifts are below.
Pantry Tablers + Set-up:
The delivery of food occurs ~1:30pm, but due to weather, traffic, and other circumstances may arrive as late as 2pm.

- Meet initially at Bliss Plaza under 46th Street Station to coordinate setting up tables
- Pantry tablers will help grab tables from All Saints Church, set-up tables, unload food from delivery truck upon arrival, distribute food, break down cardboard boxes, clean up, transport boxes to All Saints Church, and return tables there as well.
- Heavy lifting may be required for some participants but not all.
Pantry Tablers + Clean-up:
The purpose of this shift is take over the pantry if it's still ongoing, but mainly to clean up and break down boxes from the pantry. The shift will likely end earlier than 4:30PM.

- Boxes need to be broken down and wrapped in twine and finally taken to the garbage area of the yard in All Saints Church
- There will be leftover food that cannot be distributed that needs to be disposed of in either compost sites or garbage bins
- A broom and dustpan will be provided to sweep up and clean the plaza at the end as well
Truck Driver & Helper:
Thursday's weekly pop-up food distribution requires the picking up and delivering of food rescued produce from Sharing Excess to the pantry underneath Bliss Plaza. These two roles is a physically intensive role that requires the lifting and moving of many boxes of produce, please keep that in mind when signing up for it.
The shift requires:
- The driving from wherever the truck is located (location varies, but it's located in Astoria within relative proximity to Astoria Food Pantry) to Sharing Excess -- about a 20-25 minute drive
- The loading of produce onto the truck at Sharing Excess -- time varies based on the capacity of Sharing Excess, but takes around an hour and sometimes more
- Driving the truck to Bliss Plaza from Sharing Excess -- about a 30 minute drive
- Driving the truck back to Astoria Food Pantry from Bliss Plaza -- about a 15 minute drive
Note that this does not include the travel time to get to the truck, so please plan accordingly!
