Volunteering for 92130 Cares' Sunday Free Farmer's Market is a great way to get involved in our community. All ages are welcome!

92130 Cares partners with local grocery stores to pick up near-expiry or otherwise unsellable but still fresh foods every Sunday. We distribute the food to our neighbors in low-income and affordable housing communities, rotating between four locations in 92130.
 
How can you help?   We need a small army of volunteers each week to pickup food or gear, set up, distribute food and clean up! Most volunteer shifts start at 8:45 am (8:30 am for gear pickup and food pickup at Grocery Outlet). Everyone (no matter what job you signed up for) volunteers at the market and helps clean up. We're usually done at 10:30 am depending on the amount of food to distribute.   You will receive an email with detailed instructions a few days before your volunteer shift (usually Thursday)!

How long is the shift?  Around 2 hours.  
  • 8:45 am: Volunteer shifts to pickup food at the grocery store or set up onsite (8:30 a.m. for Grocery Outlet and Jimbo's 4S or to pick up gear)
  • 9:30 - 10:15 am: Food distribution (times are approximate and will depend on how much food there is to distribute)
  • 10:15 - 10:30 am: pack-up/clean-up
Do I have to drive to the grocery store to pickup food?
  • Only if you sign-up to be a driver otherwise we’ll see you onsite for your shift at 8:45 am!
Can my kids join me?
  • Yes! Many families volunteer together and there's something for everyone to do! We ask that you complete the waiver form for you and any children joining you.
Help! I can no longer volunteer for my shift.
  • No problem! We understand that life happens and things come up unexpectedly. We ask that you let us know as soon as possible that you are not able to join by cancelling your shift via Plan Hero and emailing info@92130cares.org.
